Fantasy and Fiction to Reinvent the World

Sheala Dawn Henke

Welcome to My Spot!

I’m thrilled you’ve stopped by to visit! While you’re here, I’m excited to tell you more about myself and the stories I write. If you love books with a fantastical flare, squiggly twists, and nib-knobby turns, then you’ve come to the right place. Stories of places and spaces between the ‘Thin Places’ of your imagination.

My stories are never without the magic, love, adventure, and the misadventure of courageous young individuals who must reach far and wide to discover what’s possible and achievable! These are tales of potential and wonder, where out of the dark we can see the light — altered, bent, and beautiful, I invite you to enter a safe haven for every color, creed, and companion who ever believed in the unseen forces and potential that shape who WE are in the world.

I am passionate about bringing fantastical ideas to life. I write soul-affirming books from story realms that inspire individuals to seek their unique value and worth in this world. I’ve always loved collaborating with my student Muses who live and breath in the stories I write. They are the light on the page that brings every imagined world to life. Writing for kids, with kids is the best part of my job as an author and educator!

Each story is a promise I make to YOU, my amazing readers!  For more tidbits of wisdom, feel free to visit and comment on  my blog right here.

Thank you for reaching out!

“Story Bends is not a lightly, flowing read. It doesn’t do all the work for you by laying out a simple story in a simple structure. It asks you to “bend” your mind just as the story bends between reality, subconscious, memory, and spiritualism. I’d LOVE to be a fly on the wall when a group of young readers discuss this book. Children, as the story suggests, are so much closer and so much more empathetic to the worlds we cannot see than adults. This book offers hope for those who have suffered trauma and those who tend to them. It invites you to believe that with love, acceptance, and patience, we can all heal.”
Teresa R. Funke

With poetic prose and a unique voice, Story Bends draws us into an adventure that leads us beyond the boundary of life and death, to the place where memories live. We root for Edward as he struggles to overcome his past trauma and takes us on a deep journey from darkness to light. We feel pulled along by the mystery and suspense… and the stakes grow higher the deeper we get. The story raises questions of spirituality, trauma, and healing as we explore the enigmas of Edward’s life.

Writing in a different voice is such a refreshing and delightful change from the cookie cutter normality of today’s works! There are many levels of psychological healing for ALL ages offered (often as “Tilley-isms”) in this delightful, almost mythical read. I definitely recommend it for all ages and stages of life.

Story Bends

“The Magic of The Bends never leaves you…”

July 9, 2019

What if your only escape from death was to meet it half way?

If the voices called on YOU?

Needed YOU?

Brought you into The Bends of time where all faith is lost to those who wait. Your etchings hold the secrets to guide them on their way.

Yet, there will be no safe passage if evil finds you first and you have no toll to pay.

Enter the mind of a peculiar boy who gains passport to one of the ‘thin places’ between life and death. In this realm of tilted memories, guided by the pages of his journal and the voices that summon him, he reclaims his broken bits to discover the truth behind an early death marking. Only then can he realize the nature of his nightmares and the malign source behind his suffering so that he alone can save the living world from a cataclysmic end or die again trying.

Numbers. We see them all around. They weave themselves in and out of our subconscious throughout our entire lives. But have you ever stopped to wonder at them? Have you ever thought about how they might play a unique and mysterious role in our lives? Numbers surround...

Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Not So Gently Down the Stream

We can all relate. Right? Life most certainly can be a raging, bone crushing, life threatening, Class V stream. In my recent amassing of thoughts and words for this blog post, and in line with my true persona— collector of metaphor, I came across this T-shirt from a...

Twice Told Tales- Safe Scares for the Reluctant Writer

What does it really mean to take a risk with our writing? Does it mean we break from the elemental story decree by unfastening our seat belts to break from rule-oriented strategies? Is it wise to do so? Is it reaching too far with the quill long gone? What do we do as...

The Sacred Simple

The Sacred Simple

Lately, I’ve been digging deep. Looking for the answer to a question that seems to piggyback off of a world jampacked with too much of everything. I’ve come to discover a sense that we’ve all lost our sense of simple. Nothing seems easy anymore. Even the modest act of...

Watch Me WIP!

Watch Me WIP!

When I first came out of the closet with my writing, I became curious about the lexical concepts and terms synonymous with writers. Immersing myself in the logia of the writing community, I soon became proficient enough to comprehend some of the lingo bingo. One of my...

A Journal, A Friend

A Journal, A Friend

Recently, a beta reader for my young adult literary fantasy novel, Story Bends, asked about a specific sidekick McGuffin I planted in the narrative. “Why a journal?” My answer: The journal serves as a physical space to embody my main character’s unique internal...

My entire life I've been surrounded by the stories of The Mystic. My mother introduced me to tales of people who embodied spiritual unity beyond what is known or understood. These individuals encapsulated a certain kind of real-world magic for me. A magic, I...
